Will martial arts make a person violent?
100% No! Martial arts are used for self-defense and as a last resort. The core principles of Sinmoo Martial Arts Academy is solving problems by peaceful resolution and having the self-confidence to not rely on violent behavior.
What if someone is not very athletic. Can they still benefit from martial arts?
Certainly. We teach skills that will help with your coordination, flexibility and strength. We make sure that the activities we assign are appropriate for anyone's athletic level. We have seen people achieve amazing results.
Can a person get injured practicing martial arts?
There is a chance of physical injury with any form of exercise or sport. We take very special care to supervise all classes to see that the students are performing the techniques safely. Sparring is optional, and only performed by those who wish to participate and we feel have the skills to spar in a safe manner.
Do I have to be in great shape to take martial arts classes?
We have people of almost all levels of fitness attend our classes and many come to us out of shape. Your level of fitness is not that important because we work on improving your level, no matter where you are in terms of fitness.
If I have a past injury or medical condition, can I still train in martial arts?
Mostly likely, Yes. You will still need to talk to your doctors about that, they will know best on how to advise you.
What should I wear for my first class?
Wear a t-shirt and sweat pants that are comfortable and easy to move in. Once you become a member you will get a martial arts uniform known in Korean as a Do-Bak.
